The Gold Coast of Australia is an enchanting place filled with the bright symphony of songbirds, the warmth of a nearly tropical sun, and crashing waves that reflect the golden rays of its namesake.

When Abi first came to me to develop a wedding invitation suite and reception accents, I knew that we needed to create a design that reflected the natural beauty of her wedding as well as her bright personality.  Together, we created a stationery series that including an invitation, RSVP and wedding invitation card, menus, hand lettered place cards, and bride and groom signs!

You’re an amazing person to work with, such exceptional work. Thank you.
— Abi

Her tastes combined the nostalgia of calligraphy with modern trends and featured the following specifications:

Digitally printed in soft grey on handmade 100% cotton fibre paper

Coordinating mist grey envelopes

Modern calligraphy script font

Hand lettering in silver ink on all place cards and the bride and groom signs

Abi was tickled pink by her stationery and sent us the following thank you note: “You’re an amazing person to work with, such exceptional work.  Thank you.”  It is with humble appreciation that I share she was also an amazing bride to work with and it was my pleasure to help her create memories that will last a lifetime.

Sometimes, when you first meet a person you get an inkling of their personality.  When I first met Alfred, I knew that he and his bride were a special pair and they would be dream clients.  I wasn’t wrong.  They were sweet, sentimental, and unafraid to make bold statements of their love with their stationery.  It was an honor to work with them and it was also an unexpected pleasure because I was able to create a set of invitations as well as a map for their big day.

We received the invites, and they look fantastic! Thank you so much for the good work!
— Alfred

After much discussion, we decided upon a wedding invitation suite with the following details:

Letterpress printed in metallic copper ink on warm, white 100 cotton fibre cards

Modern calligraphy script font

They were married in a traditional church wedding but their invitations were bold, bright, and refreshing.  They wanted their names to be a swooping centerpiece for the invitations and by using a calligraphy script font we could give their invitations that sense of confidence without compromising the honored sanctity of a church union.  After receiving their invitations and map, Alfred sent a little note sharing his appreciation, “We received the invites, and they look fantastic!  Thank you so much for the good work.”  As with all my clients, we appreciate you as much as you appreciate us and it is always an honor, a delight, and a privilege.

Romantic Wedding Invitations

The blush of a bride, the kiss of roses against soft skin, and the sharing of golden wedding bands all impart a certain sense of romance to weddings. They are the union of two souls and they are celebrations that deserve to be announced with a decided flourish.

When chatting with Candice about her wedding day desires, I was struck by the sweet and innocent touches her wedding would utilize. I wanted to capture that romance in these bespoke wedding invitations and she was delighted with the results. Her wedding invitations features the following specifics:

Measurements: 4.7 x 7 inches Fonts: Formal Serif fonts Colors: Hand mixed navy blue ink Paper: 100% cotton Crane Lettra

Hand lettering, and hand pressing invitations using a vintage 1920's letter press and bespoke mixed ink, is an art and by incorporating small touches I am able to create art that mimics the bride and groom. In this case, the flowing script was embellished with a heart connecting the bride and groom. This simple detail set the tone for the wedding and warmed the hearts of all her guests.

Jessica was an elegant bride that was craving an invitation suite that spoke to her sense of sophistication.

Together, we created a truly striking bespoke design that excited her guests while hinting at the festivities to come. Her wedding was defined by a navy wedding palette, formal accents, and was hosted with at a vineyard for a delightful reception.

We wanted to evoke that sense of elegance from the very beginning and so after much discussion, we decided on an invitation suite with the following specifics: Measurements: 4.7 x 7 inches Fonts: Formal Serif fonts Colors: Hand mixed navy blue ink Paper: 100% cotton Crane Lettra The luscious cotton paper made the ideal canvas for her invitations and when printed with the hand mixed ink resulted in a gorgeous finished product.

As with all of my bespoke creations, her invitation suite was crafted using my 1920's hand and foot operated printing press. This handcrafted detail elevated her invitations and ensured her celebration would effuse a certain elegant nostalgia that was right on point with her wedding day dreams. From the very first invitation opening to the last toast of the evening, her wedding was filled with charming details and graceful moments.

Vineyard weddings are always a little more bubbly than traditional weddings because the unique location inspires a sense of quirky fun.

Ally, the bride of this wedding, is best described as a quirky young lady full of bright smiles and an eager laugh. The vineyard was the perfect place to host her nuptials and she wanted to excite her guests with a modern take on traditional wedding invitations.

She loved the concept of creating invitations with hand mixed ink and hand pressed designs, but she wanted to incorporate trending themes while nodding to the nostalgia. Her designs were guided by the gold of wedding bands and a sense of free-spirited fun. Her designs featured the following specifications: Measurements: 4.7 x 7 inches Fonts: Modern hand lettered font Colors: Hand mixed metallic gold ink Paper: 100% cotton Crane Lettra.

When Ally received her invitation suite, she was excited, effervescent, and eager to send them out. She sent the following thank you note: "You have been amazing to work with and I will recommend you to everyone I know. You can be positive that I will be using you again in the future!"

We can't wait to use our 1920's vintage letter press on Ally's next order and we know it will be just as delightful as her wedding invitations.

Floral Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Changing of seasons is something we don’t experience profoundly in Australia, so when I received a message from Kaori to develop invitations for her intimate Autumn wedding in Japan, I was delighted to work with her to create something that was rich in seasonal tones and represent the beauty this time of year holds.

The invitations Kaori chose were a revamp of a previous CocoPress design customised to portray the Autumn presence using metallic copper and silver inks paired with a metallic silver envelope. Kaori chose to have these printed on 100% cotton paper and the invitations did not disappoint.

Emma (you) have done such a great job! I can’t say thank you enough. I’m really happy! It was just beautiful and it was more than I expected.
— Kaori

Simple Yet Elegant Wedding Invitations.

Looking for a simple yet elegant wedding invitation? Thats exactly what Kortney and Matt were looking for when they first contacted me to help them with their wedding invitations.

Kortney wanted to create a bespoke wedding invitation that would capture a simple elegance while placing an emphasis on their names, afterall they are the stars of the show, right?

Kortney shared a few inspiration pictures of other invitations she liked with me, this helped me to gain a better understanding of her style.

Next, the fun part experimenting with fonts and layouts, I put together a range of draft invitations, each featuring a different modern calligraphy font paired with a more functional font for the invitation text. Overwhelmingly Kortney and Matt fell in love with this font, a few more little tweaks to the design layout and we had their final and perfect design.

The wedding invitations have been sent out and everyone absolutely loves them. Thank you so much, they are perfect.
— Kortney

Kortney and Matt chose to print their stationery on bright white cotton paper in a stylish navy blue, it was then paired with a  metallic gold envelope for that extra bit of added sparkle.

Wedding Thank You Coasters

Looking for a unique way to thank your guests for all their love and support on your big day?

This is just what Carmen and Greg were looking for when they contacted me and asked me to design a custom wedding thank you coaster for them. I love creating special and personal wedding items so of course I said yes.

Prior to presenting Carmen with some design options I asked her to send me some pics of their wedding invitations, this helped me to better understand Carmen's classic and elegant style. I then presented Carmen and Greg with a number of draft designs to choose from, we then worked together to refine their favourite design until it was perfect for them.

When the design was complete Carmen and I worked together to choose a colour palette, as they had a black and silver wedding theme, we went with silver ink and a metallic midnight black envelope.

This quote from Carmen sums up the process beautifully:

Amazing and perfect wedding Thank you cards. They turned out wonderful! Gorgeous coasters, something a little different but also very elegant and classy. Emma was a huge help and extremely friendly. Thank you for all your hard work I’m excited to send them out to all my guests that attended our wedding.

How to Invite Your Bridal Party

Bridal Party Proposal Cards

He popped the question, you said yes! There are so many plans swirling around in your head, what date should you choose for your wedding, Church Ceremony or a Garden Ceremony, when can you start dress shopping and most importantly how are you going to ask your closest friends to join you on this wedding journey?

Some people take a more casual approach to inviting their friends to be a part of the all important wedding party and just ask over coffee, some are more formal and make proposal announcements at their engagement dinner.

Whatever your approach putting your proposal in writing creates a great memento keepsake, I have created a set of hand calligraphy and letterpress Bridal Party Proposal cards, including cards for each member of your Bridal party. Remember you can stamp your style on these cards by requesting a custom ink colour.

Your wedding invitation envelopes are the first thing your guests will see when you send out that beautiful wedding stationery you worked so long and hard over, so why not announce your big day with elegance and style with custom hand lettered wedding envelopes?

Evocative of times gone past when we would pick up a pen and hand write a letter to our family and friends when we had news to share, calligraphy wedding envelopes really do add a special heart felt touch to your wedding stationery.

On a more practical note, using coloured envelopes is a great way to introduce a second colour into your wedding them. While matching the ink colour on your envelopes and invitations is a lovely way to start to tie your wedding theme colours together.

For me, hand lettering is a joy. I love nothing more than to while away an afternoon delicately hand lettering wedding envelopes, place cards, gift tags and just about anything else you can dream up that would look wonderful with a little custom calligraphy on it! its such a wonderful way to transform your invitations into something beautiful that your family and friends will always treasure.

Help! I Don't Want Kids at My Wedding!

Wedding StationeryEmmaline Lamond
Child Free Wedding

Ok its your big day and you have been planning your wedding forever and want it to be perfect, perfectly child free that is….

There are many reasons a couple chooses to have a child free wedding:

·      maybe it’s a budget thing- you just can’t stretch to accommodate all those extra little people

·      maybe it’s a venue thing- you’re having a cocktail reception in a fancy bar

·      or maybe you just want your friends and family to have a night off and really celebrate with you.

For what ever reason you have decided on a child free wedding or reception, We know this means you still love your nieces and nephews and your friends cheeky three year old, we know your not bad children hating people, you just want a child free celebration.

But now for the tricky part, how do you tell your guests?

I have seen a few different methods employed some more direct than others…

Two obvious solutions to start with:

·      Have a cocktail reception in a 18+ venue, then there are no arguments and you don’t have to play security at the door, the venue will take care of it for you.

·      Hire a baby sitter, this might be a more expensive solution for you, however offering a baby sitter at the reception venue might be just the thing to allow your friends and family the chance to really enjoy themselves at your reception sans children. This is also a great option if you are inviting children to the ceremony but not the reception or you are having a destination wedding.

Remember a little bit of wedding etiquette, the purpose of your invite is to invite people to your wedding

You can use your RSVP card to tell your guests by including guest names or number of guests invited.

Maybe you just want to include it on your invite, this is a great option if you are not including any extra information cards with your invitations.

However, I do have to stop here and remember a little bit of wedding etiquette, the purpose of your invite is, to well, invite people…not to un-invite people.

If your budget stretches its probably more polite to put it on an info card, or on your wedding website if you have one.

Examples of actual wording might include (some more direct than others):

‘please respect our wishes for a child free celebration’

‘we want our night to be a night of relaxation and respectfully advise that our reception is adults only’

‘this invitation is extended to adults only’

‘children are very welcome at our ceremony but our reception is an adults only affair’

‘while we love to watch children run and play, this is an adults only kind of day’

‘children at the ceremony, we’d love them on the scene, our reception, however is an adults only theme.’

‘strictly no children please’

One last little hint, get your Mum and future Mother in Law on board and have them spread the word before your invites are sent out, this way your guests are prepared and it won’t be an unwelcome shock to any of your guests.

Best wishes!

Fun and Flirty Springtime Engagement Invitations

Emmaline Lamond
Coco Press Engagement Invitations

Its fun to create an engagement invitation, the engagement celebration is an important beginning to a couples journey to the marriage alter, the invitations can be a little less formal and a little more fun.

Engagement invites are also a great way for a couple to set a theme for their upcoming marriage celebrations, while also showing off their personalities.

I really enjoyed the brief for these engagement invites, a springtime celebration in a fancy hotel garden. We captured the light flirty fun of spring with the dancing modern calligraphy script that joined the future Mr and Mrs with one heart. The bride to be further cemented her theme with her choice of a bright and bold orange colour- delish! We kept all the necessary info on the reverse of the card, allowing the front of the invitation to shine  through the choice of font and colour.

Are you looking for a fun and unique way to announce your engagement and set a theme for your upcoming wedding? I would love to help you bring your ideas to reality!

Letterpress Coaster Invites

Sam first contacted me full of enthusiasm and ready to create a unique wedding ‘invite’. Though not quite an invite as she and Tony had already created a wedding website, they decided they also wanted to create a small keepsake invite.

It was important to create something that would fit in with the theme of their wedding- industrial meets botanical. You know how much I enjoy a unique wedding theme, so of course I just couldn’t resist creating something fun for this one.

We actually started out with a much more complex design than this but through a number of design reviews we came to this final and much more sleek design.

I was pleased to be able to incorporate some hand lettering into the design as nothing makes for a truly unique wedding invitation like hand lettering.

The final colour choice was a dark sparkly silver to reference the industrial part of the original theme, Sam had decided it was best to keep the botanical part to the reception decorations rather than clutter up the invitation with too much detail.

nothing makes for a truly unique wedding invitation like hand lettering

The final product was a short and sweet letterpress coaster invite that focuses on the most important people of the day Sam and Tony and their love for one another.

What is Letterpress?

Letterpress PrintingEmmaline Lamond
Letterpress Coaster

Its funny when you live and breath a thing you feel like everyone must also share this passion for your thing…this is how I feel about letterpress. It lights my fire, gets my blood racing and sets my mind free, what else can I say really really love it!

Even though I know its still a specialty way of printing and of course not everyone shares my passion, though I am sure some of you do, some people have never even heard of letterpress, can you believe it?!

So today I thought I would answer that question, so just what is letterpress anyway?

Well I could give you a run down on the history of the printing press and wax lyrical about what a sad world we would live in if Johannes Gutenberg never gave us moveable type, but lets face it, letterpress is so much more than that.

Letterpress is an experience of the senses. Its beautiful to look at, the wonderful hand mixed ink in every colour ever imagined, the beautiful fonts coupled with funky design make a mini feast for the eyes. The impression stamped deep into the soft and beautifully textured 100% cotton paper begs not only to be touched but to be caressed by the softest part of your finger tips so no detail is left unexplored.

Letterpress is an experience of the senses

For the printer the sensory experience continues, each antique printing press has a voice of its own, singing its siren song to the printer as it bites into each fresh piece of cotton paper. The ink is a perfume the printer comes to love as they taste the excitement of printing each and every new piece of letterpress art.

So when you open one of my cards, stop, take a minute and admire the colour and stroke the paper like no one else is watching and smile as you imagine good old Johannes printing for the first time…yes it really would be a sad world if he never gave us moveable type.

Art Deco Wedding Invitations

Wedding StationeryEmmaline Lamond
Art Deco Wedding Invitations

Art Deco is one of my all time favourite style and Art periods, most recently made famous in the movie remake of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, ‘The Great Gatsby’.

Art Deco originated in France just before World War I and began to flourish in the 1920’s, 1930’s and 1940’s before its popularity began to wane. The Art Deco style is best know for its bold geometric shapes and rich colours, think gold with lots of beautiful ornamentation!

I was lucky enough to be given free reign by one couple in designing their invitation set, they had just one stipulation in the brief, that it had to be Art Deco inspired!

Well didn’t I go to town, I had so much fun creating designs that I might have gone a little overboard and created a few too many draft designs for them to choose from. However with a little work we narrowed down the design choices until we had a clear favourite.

The final design was a mix of Art Deco motifs coupled with some modern day interpretations of Art Deco fonts. After creating the invitation I went on to also create a co-ordinating RSVP card, place cards, menus, table numbers and a seating chart- what fun!

The letterpress portion of this Art Deco set was printed on 300gsm white cotton paper in jet-black ink- crisp and clean!

Do you have an Art Deco themed wedding in the works? I would love to help create your perfect stationery!

Why is Two Colour Letterpress More Expensive?

Letterpress PrintingEmmaline Lamond
A classic two colour letterpress wedding invitation

A classic two colour letterpress wedding invitation

Thanks for asking, this is a question I get asked about a lot.

First I would like to tell you a little bit more about letterpress and the printing presses I work on.

I operate 4 different presses, but I mostly use two of them for printing wedding stationery and other custom letterpress work. One is a table top press and is hand operated, I actually feed each individual piece of paper into the press one by one and then operate the lever by arm to close the press and create the impression on the paper. The other press is foot operated, as with my table top press I hand feed each piece of paper into the press, the difference with this larger printing press is that the press is operated by a treadle (think sort of like a bike pedal).  I operate the treadle to make the press close, transferring the ink onto the paper and creating the lovely impression letterpress is so well loved for.

two colour letterpress printing is a lengthy process requiring twice the time and twice the care for the printer

Each of my presses can only print one colour at a time, if you can imagine your invitation being printed and it has two colours, I start by inking up the press in the first colour and then hand feed each of your invites one by one through the press to print them, this is the first colour done. I then clean all the ink off the press and let the first colour of your invites dry.

Now time for your second colour, I apply the second ink colour to the press and again hand feed each of your invites through the press to print them in the second colour. At the end of this process your invites are looking pretty special, but don’t forget I have to clean the press again!

Now lets take you back a step to the design process, when you have a two colour invitation I have to create your lovely custom design and the ‘split’ it in two. I have to keep all the parts of your design that will print in the first colour as a separate design and then all the parts that will print in the second colour as another separate design. This can be tricky as I have to ensure both designs will align in the final printed piece, that I don’t miss anything or have any pars that overlap.

I then send the two parts of your design away to be made into photopolymer printing plates, one for each colour. These plates are a very important part of the printing process and what I print from, they are attached to the (platen) inside of the press, the press rollers will apply a thin layer of ink to the raised parts of the printing plate. Then as I operate the press, by hand or foot, the press closes on an individual invite and a layer of ink is applied to that piece of paper.

So as you can see two colour letterpress printing is quite a lengthy process requiring lots of hard work, twice the time and twice the care for the printer.

But well worth the effort as a two colour letterpress invitation certainly is beautiful!

Here you can see the photopolymer plate with a layer of ink freshly applied by the rollers, ready to be transferred to the paper
