Art Deco is one of my all time favourite style and Art periods, most recently made famous in the movie remake of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, ‘The Great Gatsby’.
Art Deco originated in France just before World War I and began to flourish in the 1920’s, 1930’s and 1940’s before its popularity began to wane. The Art Deco style is best know for its bold geometric shapes and rich colours, think gold with lots of beautiful ornamentation!
I was lucky enough to be given free reign by one couple in designing their invitation set, they had just one stipulation in the brief, that it had to be Art Deco inspired!
Well didn’t I go to town, I had so much fun creating designs that I might have gone a little overboard and created a few too many draft designs for them to choose from. However with a little work we narrowed down the design choices until we had a clear favourite.
The final design was a mix of Art Deco motifs coupled with some modern day interpretations of Art Deco fonts. After creating the invitation I went on to also create a co-ordinating RSVP card, place cards, menus, table numbers and a seating chart- what fun!
The letterpress portion of this Art Deco set was printed on 300gsm white cotton paper in jet-black ink- crisp and clean!
Do you have an Art Deco themed wedding in the works? I would love to help create your perfect stationery!
